I wrote something in my LJ last night that I was supposed to cross-post here, for people who are on deep impact [Edit: I corrected the spelling of "impact", happy now Jimi?] but arn't on my friends list but I forgot to. Here it is now, so when it says today, it actually means yesterday.

So today I went into Porirua TimeOut, to play DDR and the dude behind the counter recognised me as the guy who wrote a letter to the manager. So he told me "We got the new game" and I enquired "What new game?" and he pointed at the DDR machine and said "The new one of those" and my heart sunk right then. He said "We havn't installed it yet" and he pulled out the DDR Extreme Plus sign from under the counter. I was so stunned. Then he put it away and said "we're gonna send it back and spend the money on something better." And we discussed that briefly. I asked who supplies it, and he said that it was Coin Cascade, and I said that its sad, that they don't know better than to use that pirate version of the game, and he suggested that they probably pirated it themselves. And I laughed and thanked him for changing my five dollar note into five one dollar coins and went and played a lot of DDR Extreme on the wonderful Porirua machine, the only place I can get 5 stages for my buck, and that's if I don't get Extra Stage.

Points Awarded:
Liam: 1'000'000
Rose: 1'000'000

And then after our competition was a complete tie, we messed around on DDR and had fun, THE WAY IT'S MEANT TO BE Y0.

I know a lot of you will probably disparrage me for this, but I've played Extreme Plus, and it's not shit, in fact it's basically the same as Extreme if you ignore the speed mods (I know the Wellington one is slow, laggy and choppy, but ours isn't), so I'm not boycotting it.

Meh, so shoot me.

More on Extreme Plus: Went to TimeZone today, decided I may as well see this abomination at least once. It's kinda scary when you go into the arcade and there's NO ONE THERE. All the regulars were nowhere to be seen. I like this, keep it up guys.

Now, love him or loathe him, or maybe not even care either way, you have to admit that Tom does have a lot of influence around the arcades. I spoke to him today and he told me that he personally told the people at TimeOut Xtreme not to "upgrade" to Plus. Explained that he would not ever play it if they did, that no one wants to play it at TimeZone, and basically implied they'd have to be fucking idiots to do it.

And from the positive feedback I got regarding my letter to Porirua TimeOut I am now very keen on taking it in. Like I said feel free to adapt it to suit your needs. Adjust, alter, remove, or replace anything within it and submit it to your own local independant arcade. Of course it is neccesary to put your own contact details, I won't hear of any Auckland arcade emailing me :P

I played a game of DDR at TimeOut Xtreme today. Because we don't know whether or not they will upgrade, and I wasn't going to touch the abomination. It sucked. DDR at TimeOut Xtreme has always sucked. As sad as it is to say, I proclaim that if you can handle the pads being too close to the screen, Porirua TimeOut is a better arcade for DDR than TimeOut Xtreme. Whilst for most of you its too much of a trek, Porirua is closer to my home than Wellington is anyway so as long as they remain 'pure' I'm gonna be happy.

Has anyone posted about this on DDRNZ? Coz I think it could stir things up a little if the TimeZone staff knew how seriously we're taking this.

That's all for now. I just want to close with something to think about: just imagine if through our actions we managed to rid the country of this crap. Research shows that Australia and Canada got their Extreme Plus early July, and it seems they're stuck with it until unless Konami make a new DDR.

Oh actually one more thing: Remember that whilst Coin Cascade are the bastards, the TimeZone staff arn't. As Tom said to me earlier today "Dave would give us any mix of DDR that we wanted if he could. Shit, he'd let us have Stepmania on the machine!" But also remember that by not playing DDREP or by not playing in TimeZone, the staff don't suffer. Dave still gets his hourly wage. Fez, Lydia, they get their hourly wage. They don't lose anything. They don't lose us, because we'll be back when its all better. The only thing that is lost is our money when we go to spend it elsewhere. And only Coin Cascade suffer.

There Is Still Hope!
First: The sooner Konami know about this, the better,

Second: I wrote a letter for the manager of TimeOut in Porirua. I enclose it below within the LJ-CUT.

Take note that this is not neccesarily the final copy of the letter. I'm handing it in on Thursday, so it can still be revised. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, and if you think this letter is actually any good feel free to adapt it to your own local arcade.

Porirua TimeOutCollapse )

[EDIT:] rdqn displayed some pictures of the Auckland Extreme Plus, which unfortunately, were shitty pictures. Clearly not her fault, rather it was the lighting, however I found a website with an entire gallery of Extreme Plus pics to compare to:
8:14 pm
Extreme Plus: This crap has been brought in by Coin Cascade right? Does this mean that only TimeZone arcades are infected or is it possible that the TimeOut brand may also "upgrade" to Extreme Plus?

I have started playing occasionally at Porirua, and now as sad as it is, I'm shunning TZ until they remedy this. (And yes I know TZ just do as Coin Cascade tells them, but shunning TZ is the only way to shun CC).

Should we go as far as imforming the managers of the other arcades that this version of DDR is to be avoided at all costs? With Porirua being my new roost I am willing to let the manager there know about this.

I'll be happy while there are still arcades that don't indulge in this act of... trying to spoon shit into our mouths.

Photo op!
Well, as Hailz has said, the freestyle funday is no longer happening tomorrow. This leaves me between a rock and a hard place. I need photos for my Journalism article and I need them, like, very soon. So, if you're not tooooo busy could head down to Timezone at some point (like around 2pm?) for a few games? It would be great if you could. Then me and my camera bitch can take photos of you.

And it also leaves me without as much opportunity to sell my fundraising licorique. So even if you don't want to play DDR then come and buy some! Please?!

Sean! I especially want to see you there. I'll call you about it later.
5:16 pm
NEWSFLASH!! *sirens squeee!*
For those of you people who were planning to attend the FreeStyling funday this Saturday...Bad News...Christmas is cancelled. Uber flexible Liam is moving to the terrace on Saturday! SHAME ON HIM! (Kidding XP) So anyways, we could hardly have it without Liam could we? So the day has been postponed >.<
We'll all just have to find other ways to entertain ourselves this weekend -_-; The super freestyle day will happen on another weekend - HEY! Here's an idea! We could wait til Rose comes down! JOY!! =D Oh, and Liam is currently too busy to post this himself so that's why I'm being slavegirl today *poses* ^_^

Freestyle Survivor Max
Okay, had some pretty good feedback about this Saturday. Most people seem pretty keen, but unfortunately it seems we won't be able to get a time that pleases everyone. So this is what I propose:

Hahahaha ahem. Yes, well, what I was thinking is that if we did something from the Saturday morning, then took a break at lunch to get some food and then carried on afterwards, that would allow people to come and go as they are able to. That way, no one misses out on the fun because they couldn't make a certain time. It would also be nice to get everyone together to hang out and such and we could probably take over a restaurant at lunch time. >:)

So yeah, you guys let me know what you think, okies? Ta muchly.

Age: 16 years
Theme Song: Either Bag or Drop Out
Preferred mode: Heavy, 1.5X
Favourite Song: Across the Nightmare
Best Song: Anything with jumps (Love Shine, MaxX Unlimited or Legend of MaxX on Standard)

When not playing DDR: Going to school, procrastinating, acting, drinking unhealthy amounts of orange juice.
Best known for: My unique and charming personality. And my somewhat politically incorrect moniker.

Thought I might sign up. It's high time someone got their shit together and started putting everything back together again. I don't play as much as I used to so I'm a little on the rusty side. I will be along on Saturday for two reasons.
1. To have a good time and get in some much needed practice.
2. In Journalism in school I'm doing an article on arcades and DDR and I need some pics so I'll be bringing a photographer with me. If you don't want to be in any photos just let me know.
See you all there.

Fun with freestyle
Howdy everyone. I'm interested in cruising on down to Timezone on Saturday and getting a freestyle session going. What I figured we could do is chuck in a bunch of tokens... uh, card swipes and do the whole two at a time thing. Basically, two people go on, pick a song, dance their little socks off and then two more people go on. You basically cycle through the songs that way. The reason for doing this is it makes the wait seem smaller when waiting for your turn and it keeps the flow going nicely.

Now, the aim of this is to DANCE! I don't want to see anyone do anything with Max or Survivor in the title, unless of course you rule enough to freestyle to it (at which, you officially get the title of God). It doesn't matter if you go on Light, Standard, Heavy or even Beginner, as long as you are getting down, shaking some ass and having a good time. The idea behind this is to bring the dance back to Dance Dance Revolution. Also, please don't go "Awww, I'm gonna suck" and not come, because the whole point is to practice to get better. ^_^

It might also be nice for a few people to get together and practice routines, especially as I think there is going to be a section for it at Armaggedon.

I have things to do now, but you guys let me know what you think, eh? Ta muchly. ^_^

Name: Lawrence
Age: 17
Theme Song: So Deep (Perfect Sphere Remix)
Preferred mode: Heavy double 2 speed solo
Favourite Song: So Deep, Sakura, Sync
Best Song: Sync
Rivals: Beau, until he started kicking my ass by heaps. Now it's probably still Beau.
Strength: a fair bit of stamina for a large quantity of songs, speedy songs, and quite good at reading arrows on different speeds.
Weakness: accuracy and stamina for a tiring song.
When not playing DDR: Studying, looking for a job (working will replace this once I've found one), going online to chat with people, hanging out with people, driving, gaming or wtaching anime.
Best known for: being one of few teen Asians with their full licence before turning 17 =D
How you'd recognise them: I'm probably one of the few Asians in the group, if any, so I'm not hard to spot. Otherwise look for an innocent looking, spiky haired Asian (whether there's gel in it or not).
